Argentine actor and singing star Emanuel Ortega has been cast for the lead role of Enzo Ascarelli (adult).

Thirty three year old Mateo Ascarelli, a high official in Italy’s government, and the only Jewish member of the ruling Fascist Grand Council, has become increasingly uneasy about Benito Mussolini’s friendship with Adolf Hitler.
It’s the summer of 1939, after meeting with his friend, Tomas von Freisleben, aide to the German Ambassador to the Vatican, Ernst von Weizsacker, Mateo decides to send his two sons, Paolo age nine, and Enzo, age seven out of Italy. Paolo is put on a boat to Rio De Janeiro, ostensibly to visit friends in Brazil, and Enzo is taken to Buenos Aires by Mateo’s friend, an Italian Jew, Enrico Garabaldi. Garabaldi emigrated to Argentina in 1925, and is in Rome to close a transaction for the sale of Argentine beef to Italy.
The plan is for Paolo to travel by ship to Buenos Aires after he lands in Brazil. The ship’s captain has taken care of Paolo. However, the day the ship lands, September 1st, 1939, Germany attacks Poland, beginning World War II. Because of confusion and concern about possible U-Boat activity in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South America, Paolo is unable to leave Rio.
The captain has very good friends in Rio. A wealthy childless couple, Antonio and Rochina Parisi, Itaiian emigrees to Brazil, who eagerly offer to take Paolo home with them. He is very happy to go with them. They speak Italian, which makes him more at ease. They treat him like a son. They make efforts to contact the Garabaldi’s in Argentina, and Mateo in Rome, but are unsuccessful. Relations between Brazil and Argentina aren’t too good. Brazil is pro Allies, while Argentina’s sympathies are with the Axis powers.
The Parisi’s try to help Paolo make contact with Enzo and the Garabaldis, but without success. In fact, they learn that a British ship was sunk by a Nazi Submarine off the coast of Argentina about the same time that Enzo was on his way to Argentina. They and Paolo assume that Enzo was killed. Paolo is devastated. He is all alone in a strange land and he doesn’t know the language. The Parisi’s do their best to make Paolo feel welcome. After about a year, they offer to adopt him, and he eagerly agrees. As a show of respect for this couple that has treated him so well, he decides to become a Catholic and take their name.
Enzo, meanwhile is living with the Garabaldis’ in Buenos Aires, and also can’t contact his family in Italy, or Paolo. He feels very much alone, but the Garabaldis’ are very good to him, and he gets on with his life. He remains Jewish. As time goes by, Enzo decides he wants to go to medical school and become a surgeon.
The story begins in 1939. The lives of the boys are followed from Rome to Buenos Aires and Rio De Janeiro thru 1940.
The story picks up in 1960. Enzo, the younger brother who is now 28 is married with a son, Mateo and a daughter, Gina. He’s a very successful cardiovascular surgeon in Argentina.
Paolo, who is 30, is a banker in Rio. He’s also married, and has one son, Enzo.
The story line follows the lives of both brothers and their families and friends until 1973, when both brothers with their sons, Mateo, Enzo’s son and Enzo, Paolo’s son are staying at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Both boys are going to attend the University Of Southern California in Los Angeles.
The brothers meet at the hotel, when Paolo hears Dr. Enzo Ascarelli being paged. It is a heart warming and emotional reunion. After 34 years they are re-united.
Paolo and his wife fly to Buenos Aires tovisit Enzo and his family. Neither brother has any information on what happened to their parents.
They hire a private detective in Rome to try to find out. After much digging, the detective discovers that their father Mateo was killed by the Nazis in 1943, and their mother Gina was sent to a concentration camp, where she perished. This information gives them some sense of closure.
The story follows the lives of Enzo and Paolo until 2008, when the film ends.

SINOPSIS
Mateo Ascarelli, de treinta años, es un alto funcionario del gobierno italiano y el único miembro judío del Gran Consejo Fascista, y se siente cada vez más incómodo con la amistad de Benito Mussolini y Adolfo Hitler.
Estamos en el verano de 1939, después de visitar a su amigo Tomas von Freisleben, asesor de Ernst von Weizsacker, Embajador alemán en el Vaticano, Mateo decide enviar a sus dos hijos, Paolo de nueve años y Enzo de siete, fuera de Italia. A Paolo lo envían por barco a Río De Janeiro, aparentemente a visitar a unos amigos en Brasil, mientras que Enrico Garabaldi, un judío italiano amigo de Mateo, se lleva a Enzo a Buenos Aires. Garabaldi emigró a Argentina en 1925, y se encuentra en Roma para cerrar un negocio de venta de carne argentina en Italia.

Los hermanos finalmente se vuelven a encontrar. Paolo y su esposa viajan a Buenos Aires para ver a Enzo y su familia. Es una reunión de júbilo y lágrimas. Ninguno de los hermanos sabe lo que le pasó a sus padres.
En Roma, contratan a un detective privado para tratar de descubrir qué pasó. Después de mucho investigar, el detective descubre que los Nazis mataron a su padre Mateo en 1943, y que su madre Gina fue enviada a un campo de concentración, donde se da por hecho que murió. Esta información les da un sentimiento de aceptación.
La película termina con la boda de Gina, hija de Enzo, con un joven médico en Buenos Aires, y vemos a las familias de los hermanos juntas.
